Ten Years of Good Times: Austin Film Society celebrates “Everybody Wants Some!!”

I love Austin Film Society events. The Everybody Wants Some 10-year reunion at AFS Cinema was one of those nights where you could really feel the depth of the film community that AFS has helped to nurture.

The 2016 film was dubbed early on as a “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused — though the director himself, Richard Linklater, on stage at the reunion, suggested it doesn’t quite do this film justice. A decade in, its hold on people clearly hasn’t loosened.

The reunion brought many of the cast members back for a Q&A that veered between nostalgia and inside jokes — the kind of chemistry you’d dream about and be surprised to find was real.

What was on full display that night was film as a community art form — not something you watch alone in the dark, but something people gather around.

Thanks to AFS for having me there to document the night. The programmers, cinema staff, volunteers and longtime supporters make these events really special.
